We found ourselves at Whitney after seeing a sign for it on our way to visit another plantation, and we are so happy we decided to change our plans. Our tour guide, Ali, did an incredible job of discussing the history of slavery and the systems that enabled it, all while sharing detailed information about the plantation itself. The grounds were well-maintained and (mostly) accessible for someone in a wheelchair. There was a bookstore located in the visitors center that had a great collection of fiction and non-fiction books about slavery, as well as other souvenirs. I would absolutely recommend this tour to anyone looking for an honest telling of this portion of our nation’s history.
I went to this amazing please for my birthday this Summer 2017. I really connected with this place. This place also connected with me. I was able to catch an apparition of a slave. How about that. this place is haunted, no one can tell me different. The stories are amazing and nothing less. If you don't believe in ghost, I can beg to differ.
This place is a must see for everyone. It is so moving and eye opening. They offer guided tours around the property and share with you the REAL story of slavery in southern Louisiana at it's height. This is a sugar cane plantation, which is known to be back breaking working. But what I Love about this place is the emphasis on children. They bring the stories of children in slavery to life.
This plantation is a must see for adults and teens alike to understand the hardship and resilience of slaves, especially the African Americans at Louisiana plantations before the Civil war. Very well presented, informative and educational. Certainly makes an impact
I truly enjoyed my experience at the Whitney Plantation! From purchasing my ticket to preparing for the tour, everything was organized. My tour guide Andina was amazing. She was very knowledge and I loved the energy and passion that she gave off when sharing the history of the Whitney Plantation.
